Why Sports Therapy?

Sports Therapy is a discipline that enables the sports therapist to assess, advise, treat and rehabilitate sports injuries.

With specific and specialised knowledge a sports therapist is taught to recognise causes of injuries within the clients sport. With this knowledge we are able to advise on the correct treatment and rehabilitation to get the sports person back on the road to recovery and fitness.

A sports therapist will treat muscles, ligaments and tendons as well as give advice on exercises, individual programmes and ongoing aftercare and advice

Things to Consider

Please seek help and advice on any injury. When your body is in pain it is telling you something and should not be ignored.

With injuries that have just occurred ice is always advised as pain means inflammation and swelling. Place ice or an ice gel pack in a damp towel to prevent ice burn and leave on the injury for 15-20 minutes at regular intervals. This will take down the inflammation and allow new blood and oxygen to circulate freely around the area. This is the first step in helping your injury to heal in the right way and then seek advice as soon as possible.

Also be advised that if you are seeking help, advice or treatment a sports therapist should belong to a professional body such as 'The Society of Sports Therapists'. They require a minimum standard of knowledge which then allows the sports therapist to be eligible for membership status.
